On the evening of Friday. March 11th, Larry B. Arbogast. beloved husband, father, son, and brother passed suddenly and now is embraced in God’s arms. His battle with cancer was mercifully short, but he will always be remembered as a strong, generous man who grabbed life with both hands and shared his love and tenacity with all who were lucky to spend time with him.
Larry was born on April 26, 1952 to Roscoe and Iona Arbogast in Sabraton WV. He grew to become the oldest of six siblings, and helped to provide for his family since a young age.
Larry lived a life of service and intense loyalty to his family and friends. He took his first job at age 14 and soon dropped out of high school to help run the family business, a Sunoco service station in Sabraton WV. After service in the Army, he spent 19 years mining coal, and another 18 years at Mylan Pharmaceuticals before retiring in 2015.
His career and personal ambitions were always second to his family’s well-being. He loved his wife and children openly, and worked hard to give them all the things he never had. Larry touched many lives in his 63 years on this Earth, and will be missed dearly.
He is survived by his beloved wife of forty-four years, Maxine Mary Arbogast, and his two children, Lori Anne Sherlock and husband Brian, and Michael Joseph Arbogast and wife Shannon. He is also survived by his mother, Iona Lee Stout, and four siblings, Kevin Arbogast and wife Becky of Parkersburg, West Virginia, Terra Myers and husband David of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, Randy Arbogast of Ocala, Florida, and Kim Pottmeyer and husband Rick of Greenville, South Carolina. He will be reunited with his father, Roscoe Arbogast Jr., his brother, Dennis Arbogast, his son Larry Arbogast Jr., and his well-loved dogs Ellie Mae and Maya.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in loving memory to WVU Medicine Children’s (formerly WVU Children’s Hospital).
Family and friends will be received from 3:30-5:30pm on Tuesday, March 15th at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church in Star City with brother-in-law Rev. David Myers officiating.
