Born in Morgantown on July 18, 1942, son to Franklin and Opal V. Boyce, Lanny embarked on a lifelong journey of selfless dedication and honor. Following his time at University High School, he made a profound decision to enlist in the United States Navy, where he proudly served his country for ten years. Sampson (DDG-10), an experience that brought him immense pride and a strong sense of camaraderie. After a decade of exemplary service in the Navy, Lanny's commitment to duty led him to re-enlist, this time in the United States Army Reserves. He faithfully served for another twelve years before retiring with a total of twenty-two years of service to his name.
Beyond his military achievements, Lanny touched the lives of those around him with his warm and loving nature. He was a devoted father to his daughter Lana Boyce and sons Blair, and Jerry Boyce (Roxanne), always providing unwavering support, guidance, and love. Lanny's sister, Pam Triplett (Mel), shared a special bond with him, and together they created cherished memories that will forever be treasured. Lanny's legacy lives on through his adoring grandchildren, Kayla Wilson (Thomas), Frank Boyce (Kristen), and Sarah Strickler (Kevin).
He was blessed with great-grandchildren who brought him immeasurable joy: Jaden, Elijah, Blake, Madison, Brendan, Riley, and Kelley. Lanny's family meant the world to him, and his love and commitment to them knew no bounds. Also surviving is his sister-in-law, Mary Lew Boyce.
In addition to his parents, Lanny was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joan Boyce; son Blair Boyce; brother, Larry Boyce and sister Sharon Cale.
After his retirement from the military, Lanny continued to serve his community in other ways. He briefly worked for the WVU Police Department before finding his true calling with the Mon County Board of Education. As a custodian, he took great pride in maintaining a safe and clean environment for the students and staff. Lanny's dedication and attention to detail earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and the gratitude of all those whose lives he touched.
