Kirk Matthew Wassick

Kirk Matthew Wassick, 46, of Bruceton Mills, formerly of Morgantown, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) on Tuesday, July 29, 2014. Kirk was born March 5, 1968 in Morgantown, son to Daniel Wassick, Sr. and Joyce Wassick of Bruceton Mills. Kirk graduated from UHS and attended Glenville State and Fairmont State College. Kirk was very involved in his community, helping with fundraising efforts for various charitable events. He enjoyed the outdoors, spending time hunting, riding snowmobiles, golfing and vacationing at Myrtle Beach. Kirk was a PGA Professional, where he served his apprenticeship under Frank Slucika at Lakeview Country Club in Morgantown. He later held the position of Assistant Pro at the Lone Pine Golf Course in Washington, PA and the Wildwood Country Club at Allison Park, PA. He then became the head Pro at the Washington Country Club. Wanting to spend more time with his family, Kirk decided on a career change and took the position as Vice President of Regional Sales for Products and Components. Kirk was Methodist by faith and attended the Pisgah United Methodist Church in Pisgah, WV. Continuing his community involvement, Kirk became a WV SSAC certified basketball coach, where he held the position of Head Basketball Coach for the Bruceton Middle School boy's basketball team for the past three years. He was also the Assistant Coach to the girl's basketball team. Coaching his children became Kirk's passion and motivation to continue living, despite the physical losses he was experiencing. Whether on the golf course, on the road or the basketball court, Kirk's characteristics of leadership will live on in the legacy of those who he taught, coached and impacted by his gift of service. He will be sadly missed. In addition to his parents Kirk is survived by the love of his life, Mrs. Nicole Jurkovsky Wassick. On July 9 they celebrated their 20 th anniversary. Also surviving are sons Garrett Matthew Wassick, Braydon Nicholas Wassick and daughter Morgan Kayla Wassick all of Bruceton Mills; brother, Daniel James Wassick, Jr. and wife Kim and niece, Danielle Wassick all of Morgantown. Surviving is his father and mother-in-law Terry and Cathy Jurkovsky; brother and sister-in-law Heather Hatfield and Gary Hatfield, Jr.; niece, Cadence and two nephews Gary and Landon all of Washington, PA. Friends will be received at the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home on Saturday, August 2, 2014 from 2pm until 8pm and again on Sunday from 12noon until time of services at 1pm with Pastors Steve and Tim Wotring officiating. Entombment will follow at the St. Mary Peace Garden Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Kirk Wassick ALS Memorial Fund at any Clear Mountain Bank Branch.
