Kevin John Nabors

Kevin John Nabors 69, of Morgantown, WV, passed away March 12, 2025 at Sundale Nursing Home. He was born February 1,1956 in Morgantown, a son of the late James Calvin and Joan Frances Nabors.


Kevin was a 1974 graduate of University High School. Shortly after graduation, he married his high school sweetheart Janie Fairchild. He then began his career as a coal miner. Kevin was one of CONSOL's youngest certified mine foremen, and went on to become one of the first Longwall mining coordinators in Monongalia County. In his working career he ran several operations for coal companies in WV and VA.


Over the years, along with his wife, and children, he enjoyed many summer trips to their favorite vacation spot in Emerald Isle, NC. Among his hobbies, he enjoyed gardening and hunting.


After a series of debilitating strokes, Kevin had become a resident of Sundale Nursing Home for the past six years. He was a favorite of the staff there, becoming close friends with many of them. During this time, he looked forward to talking to visitors and reminiscing. He also looked forward to watching his favorite sports teams (Mountaineers and Steelers) on tv with his brother Jim.


Kevin is survived by a daughter Cassandra Nabors of Morgantown, and three grandchildren, Calvin, Payton, and Bronson Matthews. He is also survived by his older brother Jim (Mary), sister-in-law Debbie Nabors, a special uncle Ted Burnette, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and two aunts.


In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife Janie, his son Shane, and his younger brother Nathan Nabors.


In accordance with Kevin’s wishes, he will be cremated with no public service. A private interment will take place at a later date at the Zion Cemetery, Cheat Lake. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Fred Jenkins Funeral Home.


The family would sincerely like to thank the staff of Sundale Nursing Home for the exceptional care, great compassion and the beautiful friendship they all showed to Kevin during his stay there.
