Junior Perine

February 16, 1930 — September 4, 2015

Junior Perine, 85, of Morgantown joined his most-loving Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on September 4 with his family surrounded. Junior was born February 16, 1930 in Doddridge County, West Virginia. At 21 he was drafted to the army where he served as a Corporal 17 months in the Korean War with the 45th Division of the Army under General Ruffner, Head of the Medical Batallion. He worked in the motor pool and also served as a medic. He transported ammo, fuel, blood and water to the front lines. He was recommended for the Bronze Star. He was in the reserves for 6 additional years after returning from Korea. He was very proud of his Veteran Status and an outspoken member of the NRA and the Golden Eagle recognition through the NRA. He stated that he earned the right to carry a gun because he had served his country. He loved hunting and fishing. He was a charitable man who enjoyed watching his "preachers" and reading the bible before going to bed each evening. He has provided support to Billy Graham and Charles Stanley among others for many years. He retired from Hope Gas after 34 years of service counting the years before and after his service in the army. He moved from casual to crew to crew foreman and could work as hard as any man on his crew. He did not stop jumping into a ditch or using a jackhammer after his appointment to foreman. He was forced to retire due to back and neck surgeries where he lived in pain for several years. He married Addie Oneta (Polan) Perine in 1956 and began his family the following year with the birth of his only daughter, Lezlie June followed by three sons, Perry Neal, Kevin Michael and Nathan Edwin. He raised his children to be proud of their name and to always follow God, pay their bills and work hard in life. He gave up smoking in 1966 and purchased three boats during the childhood years. The family enjoyed boating at Uffington and he still retains the last boat, Crystal Dawn. He continually calls, Robert Miller his #4 son. He watched Robert grow up to be the man that he is and served as a second father to Robert. His wife, Vicki and two sons, Mason and Caleb, look to Junior as family as well. Since he was diagnosed with cancer, he has lived off and on with his son and special daughter, Perry and Bonnie who have extended his life with the excellent care they have provided. In 2014, when doctors gave a bleak prognosis that he would only have months to live, Junior and his children and spouses traveled to Kauai for a wonderful vacation. He had always dreamed of going to Hawaii so that dream was fulfilled. He was proceeded in death by his wife, Addie Oneta just short of their 38th anniversary in 1994, his son, Kevin Michael, mother, Levada Nicholas Snider, stepfathers, William Nicholas and Herman Snider, brother, Billy Joe and Clavis "Stoke". He was also preceded in death by his mother and father-in law, Oral John {O J) and Blanche Polan. He is survived by two brothers, William "Buck" Nicholas and Arnet Lee Nicholas; sister Willadeen McAtee, daughter, Lezlie Lough and husband, Lewis, son, Perry Perine and wife, Bonnie and son, Nathan Perine and wife, Debbie, and Laura Perine, daughter-in-law. He is survived by grandchildren to include Brandon Lough, Perry Perine Jr. and wife, Jessica and daughters Hayley and Nevaeh, Jonathan Perine and wife, Leah and Ariel Perine and daughter, Aubreanna. He will be missed beyond words by family friends and his pet Chihuahua, Clint. He fought the battle to remain on this earth as long as possible but the family knows where he resides now. Heaven gained our Angel. Visitation will be at Fred L Jenkins Funeral Home from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. Visitation will continue at the Spurgeon Funeral Home, West Union, West Virginia starting at 11am until the funeral at 1pm with Pastor Dave Hood. Graveside service will include full military honors at the Big Isaac Cemetery in Salem.
