Judith Kay (Shuman) Murray, 82 years old, died Monday, April 22, 2024, in Morgantown, WV. She was born on February 17, 1942, on McFarland Run Road in the Hagans area of Monongalia County, the daughter of the late Harold Edwin and Margaret Marie (Kincaid) Shuman.
Kay was a 1960 graduate of Morgantown High School and a 1964 graduate of Catherman’s Business School in Cumberland, MD. After working as a nanny in the Washington, DC area, she was employed by Melpar in Fairfax, VA, and with the Social Services Department at the WVU Medical Center. Kay joined 4-H as a girl and continued her involvement as a leader of the Big Indian Creek 4-H club for over 25 years, culminating in recognition as a 4-H All Star. She most recently attended the Arnettsville Methodist Church and volunteered at the Arnettsville Community Center.
During their 55 years of marriage, Kay worked side by side with Roy on the family farm where she had lived since she was six years old. Her children received a lifetime of decorated birthday cakes, wedding cakes, and personalized holiday sugar cookies for their classmates. She also sewed both daughters’ wedding gowns and numerous Halloween costumes for her children.
Kay is survived by her five children: Donna and Ralph Utzman, David Murray, Dan and Tiffany Murray, Daneal and Jay David, and Darrell and Amber Murray. She was “Grandma” to Ryan, Nathan, Logan, and Gretchan Utzman; Jaden Murray, Danielle Jones, Jordan Stutler; Nona and Sadie David; Annaleigh, Caid, and Gianna Murray, Braden Hagerty; and “Meemaw” to great grandchildren, Hannah Marie and Owen Roy Utzman. Her sister-in-law, Carolyn Shuman, and brother-in-law, Barney Musgrave, also survive.
In addition to her parents, Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Murray; two brothers, Sherril and Wayne Shuman; and two sisters, Jean Wadsworth and Ann Musgrave.
Visitation will be held at Fred Jenkins Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 from 6-8PM. The funeral service will also be held at the funeral home on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at 11AM. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers as she is laid to rest at the Arnettsville Cemetery.
