Johnny E Brooks

September 1, 1930 — February 16, 2024

Johnny E. Brooks, passed away at the age of 93 in the comforting presence of family at his son's home in Brookhaven, on Friday, February 16, 2024. Born on September 1, 1930, in Maidsville, WV, Johnny lived a vibrant and impactful life that touched everyone he knew.

Family was the cornerstone of Johnny's life. He is survived by his devoted son, John W. Brooks, & daughter-in-law Cathy, and son-in-law Russell Barnett, Jr. who cherished him deeply. Johnny's legacy continues through his adoring grandchildren, Kimberly S. (Deon) McMillen & David (Jennifer) Barnett, & his great-grandchildren, Deon II (Ashley), & Dustin McMillen, Casey, Keirsten, Colby, & Kara Barnett. His joy was multiplied with the birth of his great-great-grandchild, Paisley and loving nieces and nephews. His sister, Rosalie M. Gould, will fondly remember her brother's laughter and wisdom. Johnny was welcomed into heaven's embrace by his beloved wife, Mary J. Conner Brooks, his daughter Diana L. Barnett, & his parents, Charles 'Ed' & Violet L. Brooks.

A man known for his strong work ethic, Johnny dedicated 45 years to Sterling Faucet, where he was not only a valued employee but also a champion bowler. He and his team often seized the first-place title, a testament to their skill and camaraderie. Beyond the lanes, Johnny served his community with pride and commitment. As the Assistant Chief of Brookhaven VFD, the Captain of Morgantown Police Reserves, and an involved member of Morgantown Civil Defense, he proved himself a man of action and integrity. He was also always there on the sidelines, supporting his son's little league baseball team with that same steadfast spirit.

Johnny was beloved for being incredibly handy, with a knack for fixing anything that needed repair. His terrific sense of humor and friendly demeanor endeared him to everyone. Those fortunate to have known Johnny will remember him not just for the roles he held or the tasks he accomplished but for the warmth and laughter he brought into their lives. His presence will be profoundly missed, but the fond memories he created will be treasured forever.

Family and friends will gather at the Fred Jenkins Funeral Home on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2024 from 4 to 8 PM & again on Wednesday from 11 AM until time of service at noon with Pastor Jim Cooley officiating. He will rest with his wife at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
