John Ray Holbert, 71, of Maidsville, passed away Sunday, September 20, 2026, at Mon Health Medical Center. He was born March 24, 1955, in Morgantown, a son of the late Charles and Edna Brotherton Holbert.

John was employed by 84 Lumber Company, where he worked as a contractor salesman. He was a true tinkerer who could fix just about anything and always seemed to find a way to make things work. He enjoyed the simple things in life, especially riding his side-by-side, gathering with family and friends for yard parties, and making memories with the people he loved. But nothing brought John greater joy than his family. He took great pride in being a Pap and treasured the time he spent fishing and making memories with his granddaughters. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather whose greatest happiness came from being surrounded by the people he loved most.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Vicki Holbert; son, Jason Holbert and his wife, Jamie; daughter, Christan Lacko and her husband, David; granddaughters, Lucy Holbert and Ella Holbert; sisters, Judy Harvey and her husband, John, Patty Holbert, and Kim Taylor; Sidney Clingerman, Logan Clingerman and his wife, Madison, who were like grandchildren to John; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother, Butch Holbert.

Honoring John's wishes, cremation services are being provided by Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home. A private service will be held with his good friend, Pastor John Neely, officiating.
