John E. Glaze

August 22, 1920 — November 30, 2011

John E. Glaze, 91 of Darst Street, Morgantown, passed away Wednesday November 30, 2011 at the home of his cousins Emma and Fred Jackson. John was born August 22, 1920 in Morgantown son to the late Christine Glaze. John was a graduate of Monongalia High School. John enlisted in the Army on December 22, 1943 and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant in June of 1946. He served over seas for 16 months with the 25 th Signal Heavy Construction Battalion in both the European and Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operations. During this time he received many decorations and citations for his service, including two bronze stars. After returning from the service John worked at Sterling Faucet for several years and later for the City of Morgantown. He leaves to mourn his loss, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Jackson and their son Lewis, with whom he made his home for the last several years. Also surviving is his Sister-in-law, Wanda Spencer of Morgantown and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to his mother, John was preceded in death by his step-father Reuben Scott his wife of 65 years Mary Virginia Miles Glaze and his cousins Evelyn Smith, Sarah McCants and Cora Mae Lindsey. Friends may call at the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home on Sunday December 4, 2011 from 1pm until time of services at 2pm with Rev. Mary Morgan officiating. Burial will follow at the East Oak Grove Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by Westover VFW Post 9916 and WVANG Camp Dawson.
