John Bernard Gillespie, Sr.

John Bernard Gillespie, Sr., 74 of Morgantown, passed away Sunday, December 26, 2021 at Mon Health Medical Center. He was born April 11, 1947 in Morgantown, a son of the late Charles and Rosie Gillespie. He was a devoted family man, loving father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, of 50 years, Patty Gillespie; daughters Karen Friggens, Tammy Straub and husband Carl; son John Gillespie, Jr. and wife Stacey. He is also survived by a sister Shirley Saunders. John was a huge Pittsburgh Penguins and Steeler fan. Nothing brought him more joy than being with his family but especially his five grandchildren, Jakob and Scott Straub, Samson Gillespie, and Samantha and Abigail Friggens. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles Gillespie, Jr., Harold Gillespie and sister Elizabeth (Liz) Bolyard. Visitation will be held at Fred L. Jenkins Funeral home on Thursday, December 30, 2021 from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at noon. John will be laid to rest at East Oak Grove Cemetery in Morgantown. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's memory to a charity of your choice.
