John K. Dugan, Sr.

April 6, 1944 — March 18, 2024

John K. Dugan, Sr. passed away peacefully on Monday, March 18, 2024, at the age of 79. He was born on April 6th, 1944, in Morgantown, West Virginia, a son of the late John D. Dugan and Louise Coombs Dugan.

John’s journey was rich with love and lasting partnerships, most notably with his cherished wife, Helena Dugan. They walked hand in hand for an incredible 57 and a half years. Together, they raised a close-knit family, including their son John Dugan, Jr. and his wife Robin, and their daughter Debbie Childs with her husband Phil. His legacy continued to flourish through his grandchildren Elena Cummins (Eric), Hannah Dugan, Josh Childs, Joy Childs (Devin), Jacob Childs, and Jay Childs, and he beamed with pride for his great grandchildren Parker Masters, Grayson Masters, and Wyatt Masters. The impending arrival of his great granddaughter next month promises to further enrich the family tapestry he held so dear.

In addition to being survived by his immediate family, John's memory is cherished by several nieces and nephews, mirroring his expansive capacity to love and nurture.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother Brad Dugan.

John dedicated many years to his work as a telephone technical engineer, serving diligently for companies like C & P Telephone, AT&T, Lucent, and Avaya. His expertise was also a pillar in the world of athletics, as he was “one of the phone guys” for WVU Football for 35 years and for WVU Basketball for an impressive half-century.

John's commitment to service was further evidenced by his active participation in Pisgah United Methodist Church, Monongalia Lodge 10 IOOF, AMOS, Encampment, and the Rebekah’s, along with the Telephone Pioneers, where he embodied the camaraderie and philanthropy that defined these organizations.

A man of diverse interests, John delighted in art, loved all things Disney, relished decorating for all holidays, and cherished moments spent on the river. His passion for history and travels to the beach were fond experiences he often shared with his family. Above all, John was a family man at heart; the time he spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren was his most treasured.

Family and friends are invited to gather at Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, from 2pm – 4pm & 6pm-8pm with a brief service at 7pm by the Monongalia Lodge 10 IOOF.
