John Harold Brewer, Sr.,

78, of Independence, passed away Thursday, July 7, 2016, at home with his loving family by his side.

The son of the late Burrus and Beulah Summers Brewer, he was born February 27, 1938, in Morgantown.

John was a retired coal miner and a member of the Mt. Nebo Church of Christ.

John is survived by his loving wife, of 60 years, Mary G. Hunt Brewer; three daughters: Mary Schiffbauer and her husband, Tim, Patsy Fortney, and Joy Gilleland and her husband, Tim; two sons, John Brewer, Jr. and his wife, Kimberly, and Jack Brewer and his wife, Karen; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and a special niece and nephew, Joe and Linda Kantes.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers.

Family and friends will be received Friday, July 8, 2016 at Mt. Nebo Church of Christ, Bunner Ridge Rd. Fairmont, WV, from 11 am until the 12 noon funeral service, with Pastor David Ryan officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Nebo Cemetery.
