It is with warm remembrance and peaceful hearts that we celebrate the life of John C. Brewer, affectionately known as Pap by those who knew and loved him. He was born October 2, 1940, in Morgantown, WV, and entered eternal rest on February 8, 2024.
A lifelong resident of Morgantown, Pap was a devoted family man preceded in death by his adoring wife Mary E. Hunt Brewer, stepsons Robert Lee Hunt & William 'Bill' Hunt, his treasured granddaughter Angel Gillespie, his parents Washington & Nellie Walls Brewer, several siblings & his beloved canine companions Oreo & Cocco.
His warmth and wisdom will be carried forward by his surviving stepchildren, Jonathan Hunt, Brenda (Kenny) Gillespie, Ronald (Sheena) Hunt, & Larry Hunt, alongside numerous cherished grandchildren & great-grandchildren.
Pap dedicated more than 28 years of hard work at Sterling Faucet, and beyond his professional life, he was an active participant in his community. Known for his deep-seated faith, he once was a driver for the Sunday school bus at Granville Apostolic Church and in recent years attended First Apostolic Church in Sabraton, engaging fully in his spiritual community.
John was a man of simple pleasures; he found joy in the tranquility of fishing and the thrill of hunting. His presence in the neighborhood was a blessing, as he invested time with many local children, imparting life lessons and skills with a gentle hand. An avid walker, he also took great pride in immersing himself in scripture, having hand-copied his Bible over 21 times.
His marriage with Mary was full of shared adventures and road trips, seizing every opportunity to visit family and friends. Those who knew him will remember John as faith-filled, gentle, and kind—a true friend and a guiding light to all.
John C. Brewer's life was a profound testament to the power of kindness and steadfast faith. He walked gently on this earth and left it richer for his presence. His spirit will continue to inspire and guide those who were fortunate to have known him.
Family and friends are invited to gather at the Fred Jenkins Funeral Home on Monday, February 12, 2024, from 4 PM to 7 PM and again on Tuesday from 10 AM until time of services at 11 AM with Pastor Kelly Perkins officiating. He will rest with his wife, Mary, at the East Oak Grove Cemetery.
