Johanna Mayer Johnnie' Gillmore, 90, of the Suncrest Community, Morgantown, passed away on Saturday August 8, 2015 at her home. She was born in Plymouth, Wisconsin on October 18, 1924 daughter to the late Ernst and Magdalena Meuller Mayer. She graduated from Plymouth High School in 1942 where she was named Prom Queen her senior year. Johnnie worked as a secretary in Chicago where she met her soon to be husband, Donald. They were married June 10, 1944 and moved to State College, PA where Donald completed his Doctorate. Together they travelled to Pittsburgh, Buffalo, and finally his work brought them to Morgantown in 1970. Johnnie became very active in her community. Johnnie was a volunteer of Ruby Memorial Hospital for 32 years. She held memberships in the Mountaineer Women's Club for 35 years and was a former member of the Mountain Harmony Chapter of Sweet Adelines. Johnnie was a faithful and energetic member of the Suncrest United Methodist Church for over 45 years. She was a member of the Minnie Kinnan Circle, Methodist Women, Altar Guild and Prayer Quilt Ministry. Something she enjoyed the most was singing in the Chancel Choir and cherished the friendships that she made over the past four decades. Although very active in her community and church activities, Johnnie found time to enjoy gardening, family vacations to Ohio, Cape Cod, and Myrtle Beach. Johnnie loved sharing good times with her special friends, Rene Wolfe, Betty Vorbach and Ansusan Inskeep. Johnnie is survived by her two daughters, Sue Dragovich and Judy Dalton and husband Mick; grandchildren, Abby, Jason, Justin and wife Chasity, Colby all of Morgantown, Meghan and husband Alex of New York, NY and Emily of Boston, MA. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. In addition her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Dr. Donald Wood Gillmore; one daughter Dr. Janet Gillmore; son-in-law, Stephen E. Dragovich; one brother, Harold Mayer and three sisters, Gertrude Harbrecht, Adeline Schroeder and Marie Wilcox. Friends will be received at the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home on Monday, August 10, 2015 from 5pm until 8pm and again on Tuesday at the Suncrest United Methodist Church, 479 Van Voorhis Road, Morgantown from 10am until time of services at 11am with Rev. Junius Lewis officiating. Burial will follow at the East Oak Grove Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff of Morgantown Hospice and caregivers who provided compassionate care over the last couple of weeks.
