Joanna Marra

Joanna Marra, 88, of Morgantown passed away Tuesday June 12, 2012 at Mapleshire Nursing Home. Joanna was born in Morgantown on June 24, 1923, the eldest daughter of the late Thomas and Anna Torch. Joanna was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Star City, and the Christian Mothers. She often volunteered in the cafeteria at St. Mary's. Joanna retired from the WVU Horticulture Department. She loved gardening and everything flowery. She could grow almost everything and loved to work in her flower beds in early spring. She was a member of the Red Hat Society. In her retirement she spent long hours playing cards with friends and family and loved the companionship it brought her. Joanna was a beautiful, graceful, and generous wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She is survived by her two sons, Michael and Ann Marra of Bruceton Mills, WV and William Billy' Marra and Sigrid Johannesdottir of Alexandria, VA; grandchildren Misty Williamson and husband Todd, John Adams and wife Megan, Joey Adams, Johannes Karl Karason and wife Rakel Osk Eckard, Idunn Karadottir-Panaroni and husband Jay; great grandchildren Marra Williamson, Gemma and Levi Adams, Oskar Karl and Sigridur; two sisters Mrs. Mary (James) Lucci of Willoughby, OH and Josephine Dodge of Macedonia, OH. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband William M. Marra; daughter Shari Marra; and sister Grace Mitchell. The family would like to thank the friends and staff of Mapleshire Nursing Home for the loving care and consideration for our mother. Family and friends may call at the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home Thursday June 14, 2012 from 4-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday at 11am at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. John V. DiBacco as celebrant. To honor Joanna's wishes cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Joanna's memory to St. Ursula Food Pantry and Outreach, PO Box 18, Pursglove, WV 26546.
