Jeffery Scott Compton, 49, of Morgantown passed unexpectedly at his home of natural causes on Wednesday, Feb. 05, 2020. He was born July 31, 1970, in Beaver Falls, PA, a son to Roger and Alice Bonnell Compton of Morgantown.
Jeff was a graduate of Morgantown High School class of ’88 and finished his undergraduate degree at Fairmont State University. Jeff would earn his Juris Doctorate from the WVU College of Law and started his practice, Compton & Associates, PLLC in Morgantown and Fairmont. Jeff also served on the Civil Service Commission of Monongalia County.
Jeff was larger than life and had a personality to match. He had an unbridled enthusiasm for freedom in every sense of the word. Professionally, he was outspoken about the 2nd Amendment and our right to bear arms, and personally, he found his freedom on two wheels. Known as ‘Big Justice’ to his motorcycle group the Handlebar Quartet, his adventures would take him to all the best-known rallies in the country, including Sturgis, Daytona, Myrtle Beach, and Rolling Thunder, each Memorial Day. He rode Harley Davidsons, Indian, Victory motorcycles, and may have an opinion about a few other brands. He would ride many famous highways, including the Dragon’s Tail and hundreds of miles of roads in WV, PA, OH, and MD.
Jeff enjoyed traveling even if not on a motorcycle. One of his favorite places on earth was Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. You would usually find him poolside with several books. His thirst for knowledge was unquenchable. Among all of the classics, To Kill a Mockingbird, would be Jeff’s most beloved literary work.
The only thing Jeff loved more than the law and his motorcycles where his two boys. In addition to his parents Roger and Alice, Jeff is survived by his sons, Clay Atticus Compton and Henry Jackson Compton, their mother Heidi Compton; one brother Wesley ‘Wes’ Compton and wife Regina all of Morgantown, three nephews, Kyle Compton & fiancee Kayla Lewis of Kingwood, WV, Logan Compton, and wife Lindsay Compton, and Ryan Compton and his girlfriend Madilyn Shaffer all of Morgantown and numerous Uncles, Aunts and cousins.
The family will receive friends at the Fred Jenkins Funeral Home on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2020, from 3 PM until 8 PM and again on Monday from 10 AM until time of services at 11 AM with Darrell Stevenson officiating. He will be laid to rest at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
