James Franklin “Jim” Potts, 88, of National, passed away Saturday, July 24, 2021, at his residence. He was born January 7, 1933, in National, a son of the late Irk William Potts and Helen Leola Stevens. Jim worked as a coal miner at Pittswick Christopher No. 5 mine for 13 years. He was a Korean War veteran, serving from 1953 to 1955. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Patricia Jane “Patty” Potts (Duley); daughters, Wanda Louise Martin, Barbara Etta Loudermilk, Helen Marie LeMasters, and Teresa Ann Smith; sons, James Michael “Mike” Potts, Ronald Lee “Ronny” Potts, Robert Eugene “Bo” Wiles Jr, John Randall “Hatchet” Wiles, and David Michael “Catfish” Wiles; 30 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Irk William Potts, mother, Helen Leola Stevens; brothers, George William “John” Potts, Harold Junior Potts, Irk Vivian Potts, and Russell Paul Potts; sisters, Dixie Lee Cumpston and Judith Ann “Judy” Morton; great-grandchildren, Amber Lynn Potts and Mercedes Cloe. Friends will be received at Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home on Thursday, July 29, 2021 from 6pm – 8pm, and again on Friday from 10am until the time of the funeral service at 11am with Rev. William Page officiating. Burial will follow at Arnettsville Cemetery with military honors.
