James Rockford Rocky' Nethken, Sr., 62, of Maidsville, passed away peacefully at home on December 28, 2014 surrounded by his family. He was born March 24, 1952 in Morgantown, son to the late Arthur Charles and Martha Daniels Nethken. James grew up in Morgantown and attended University High School and then was drafted into the US Army in 1969 and served in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1971. Upon his return from Vietnam, Rocky worked in the Coal mines for 26 years and later retired from Heitech Corporation after 13 years of service. After his retirement he spent many days in his garage enjoying time with his friends. If you knew Rocky you knew he was good with a wrench and could repair almost anything. When not tinkering around the shop you could find Rocky spending time with his grandchildren. He was a family man before anything else. Rocky is survived by his three sons, James Jimmy' Nethken, Jr. and fiancé Darla, Scott Allen Nethken and William Joseph B.J.' Nethken and wife Stephanie all of Maidsville; three grandchildren, Caanan James Nethken, Emilia Kay Nethken and Kendra Elizabeth Nethken; two sisters, Della Dalton and Patricia Kerns and husband Skip all of Maidsville, two brothers Arthur Charles Nethken, Jr. and wife Betty of Mississippi and Franklin Howard Nethken and wife Sue of Maidsville. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Susan Nethken; two brothers, Harry Thomas and Clifford Clarence Nethken. Friends may call at the Fred Jenkins Funeral Home on Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2014 from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm and again on Wednesday from 10am until time of services at 11am with Pastor Dan Meadows officiating. Burial will follow at the Bethel Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Westover VFW Post 9916 and WVANG, Camp Dawson.
