James Charles Jim' Calain, 71 of Friendsville, MD passed away Wednesday November 2, 2011 at the Monongalia General Hospital. Jim was born March 7, 1940 in Junior, WV son to the late Charles F. and Mary Lucille Friel Calain. Jim graduated from Elkins High School and then joined the Army in 1959 and was honorably discharged in 1962. After returning from his service in the Army, Jim worked in the drilling and blasting industry. At one time Jim was the youngest licensed blaster in the Baltimore area. He worked 20 years for the Explosive Engineers of Baltimore and then another 20 years for Mt. State Bit Service of Morgantown. He had a distinguished career of nearly 50 years. Jim was a dedicated family man and a gifted woodworker. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Jim is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mrs. Helen Shaffer Calain of Friendsville; children, Jim Calain, Jr. and wife Kathy of Morgantown, Teresa Dunnuck and husband Rick of Woodbridge, VA and Paul Calain and wife Maria of Catania, Sicily. Also surviving are grandchildren, Whitney Bolyard, Danielle Dunnuck, Damian Kelley and Paul Calain, Jr.; great grandchildren Adont and Ayden Shepard and NTira Harvey; brother, John Calain and wife Mary of Little River, SC,; sisters Darlene Powell and husband Stanley of Akron, OH, Millie Elmore and husband Gene of Warren, OH, Barbara Brown of Elkins and Linda Crosston and husband Don of Elkins. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers Robert and Odbert Calain. To honor Jim's wishes cremation was provided by the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home. Friends may call at the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home on Monday November 7 from noon until time of services at 1pm with Jeff Stanley officiating. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in honor of Jim to the Northern Garrett County Rescue Squad P.O. Box 293 Grantsville, MD 21536 and /or the Woodford Memorial United Methodist Church, 113 First Street, Elkins, WV 26241.
