Jack L. Gibson

Jack L. Gibson, 86, of Morgantown passed away Wednesday March 27, 2019 at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born March 4, 1933 in Morgantown, a son of the late Earl L. Gibson and Blanche Miller Gibson.

Jack attended Woodburn Elementary, Morgantown Jr. High School and was a 1952 graduate of Morgantown High School. After graduating high school, Jack enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was stationed near Mt. Washington, VT, where he tested cold weather clothing and gear for the Army.

After returning home from the Army in 1955, he worked at Sterling Faucet Factory, Olin Matheson Chemical, and later in all phases of house construction. In 1966, he joined the Carpenters Local 1339. During his years with the Carpenters Union, Jack worked at Ft. Martin, Haywood, and Willow Island Power Stations, and the WVU Football Stadium.

Jack was also very active in the Brookhaven community. He was a member of the Brookhaven Volunteer Fire Dept. from 1957-1974. He also spent time with the Brookhaven Community Association, helped with the youth club, and was a charter member of the Brookhaven Lions Club.

In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, motor sports, and country music. He was an avid gardener, and cherished canning and freezing vegetables from his garden, as well as deer meat. Jack really had a passion for woodworking, and sharing his homemade wooden gifts with others.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years Susan Brand; sister Mary Jane Conley; son Aaron Gibson and wife Edie; daughter Sharon Dewitt and husband Frank; grandchildren Ami Thobois and husband Craig, Adam Lemasters; and great grandchildren Brianna, Caitlyn, Oliver, and Evelyn. Jack is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Ralph James Gibson.

Jack’s last wish was to bid a passionate farewell to all who knew him.

Family and friends will be received at Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home on Saturday March 30, 2019 from 4-7pm. Honoring Jack’s wishes cremation will follow.
