Iona Marie Rose

September 16, 1919 — July 24, 2013

Iona Marie Stump Rose, 93, of Morgantown passed away peacefully on Wednesday July 24, 2013 at the Mapleshire Nursing Home. Iona was born September 16, 1919 in Petersburg, WV daughter to the late Edward H. and Sadie F. Stump. Iona was a wonderful wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandma, great grandma, great-great grandma, wonderful neighbor and friend. She was a long standing member of the Sabra United Methodist Church, where she was active as a Sunday school teacher, United Methodist Women and was available for any and all activities of the church. Iona was instrumental in beginning the Migrant Workers Kit Program in the Romney area, involving all local area churches. She was also very active in her community Church Women United and made over 1500 pillows for surgical care patients at Mon General Hospital. She was a charter and lifetime member of the Izaak Walton League of America. She loved outdoor activities, hunting, fishing, gardening and walking with friends. She spent over 50 years with her husband, children and relatives at the family cabin at Capon Bridge, WV. Iona is survived by her three daughters, Donna M. Frum and husband Paul of Morgantown, Phyllis Jean White and husband Glenn of Waynesville, NC, Patricia Ann Forbes and husband Melvin of Granville, WV and son Dorsey B. Rose, Jr., and Dorothy Cosner of Friendsville, MD; eight grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Georgia Whetzel and Ruth Runion both of Petersburg; one brother Grant Stump of New Jersey and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Dorsey B. Rose, Sr. two sisters, Eurania Jane Riggleman and Mary Lou Bonnette and two brothers, Junior Stump and Ray Stump. Friends may call at the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home on Friday July 26, 2013 from 3-5pm and 7-9pm and again on Saturday from 10am until time of services at 11am with Rev. Kevin Cain officiating. Burial will follow at the Lawnwood Cemetery. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the Mapleshire management, nurses and staff for their care.
