Ilene Shahan

Beatrice Ilene Shahan, 92, born November 19, 1926, in Cassville, WV to the late Franklin T. Sutton and Mary (Smith) Sutton passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 19, 2019, at the JW Ruby Memorial Hospital. Ilene graduated from University High School in 1944.

After graduation, she worked at Morgan T-Shirt Factory, Hlad’s, Hando’s, and Ponicks Grocery stores in Cassville. On September 21, 1947, she married her high school sweetheart, Vernon G. Shahan and together started a family on their farm. In the late 1950s through the 1960s Ilene worked at Blackshere Cleaners in Westover and Osage.

She was one of the founding members of the Cassville Junior High School Reunion Committee and a member of Cass CEOS. Ilene was a talented seamstress and provided alterations for many folks in her lifetime. She loved quilting and sharing time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed cooking, baking and sharing with whoever stopped by for a visit.

She leaves behind her sons; James F. Shahan & Cynde Baker of Warren, OH, Richard G. ‘Dick’ Shahan & spouse Mary Jo of Cassville, WV; one daughter, Judy May & spouse Walter of Clarksburg, WV; grandchildren, Cherity Shahan, Chris May, Richard Shahan, Jr., Christy Shahan Belan, Melissa May, & Chad May; great-grandchildren, Derrick Shahan, Triston Shahan, Kyle Belan, Maria Powers, Alex Shahan, & Connor Belan.

In addition to her parents, Ilene is preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Shahan of 63 years; grandson, Robert Shahan & granddaughter Shelly Shahan.

Family and friends will be received at Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home, on Sunday, June 23, 2019, from 2-4 & 6-8 pm. Visitation will continue Monday from 10 am until the time of services at 11 am with Pastor Terry Wilson officiating. She will be laid to rest at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens.
