Icie J. Matthews

Icie J. Barr Matthews, 86, of Point Marion, formerly of Morgantown, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 14, 2016. Icie grew up in Fairview, WV as a coal miner’s daughter and graduated high school in 1949. She was very detail oriented and worked in the glass industry for many years alongside her husband. Prior to her retirement she worked as a bookkeeper at the WVU Bookstore.

After her retirement she adored spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was also very fond of the outdoors and enjoyed watching the wildlife.

She will be sadly missed by all who loved her.

She is survived by her long-time companion, Thomas Ritz; children; son, Ernest J. Matthews, Jr. and wife Debbie; daughters, Jeanette Stanger and husband Doug, Colleen R. Matthews and boyfriend Richard Ripley; son, Brian L. Matthews and wife Ann Marie; son, Lyle D. Matthews and wife Nancy; one sister, Sylvia J. Pellegrin; grandchildren, Amy Matthews, Cathy Bowers, Jason Matthews and girlfriend Lianne Crabtree and her children Kyle and Kara, Samuel and Stephen Matthews, Courtney Matthews, Lyle Matthews, Jr., Jeremy Matthews, Ronald Phillippi and wife Julie, Michael Phillippi and wife Tiffany, Lisa Simpson and husband Brett; great grandchildren, Gabrielle Matthews, Riley Bowers and Reece Krishock, Nathan Matthews, Lucy Phillippi, Katie Phillippi, Colby Chisler, Jeffrey Phillippi, Aleah Kennedy, Luke and Reid Simpson and Haylee Matthews

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence Ray Barr, Sr., and Mabel Elizabeth Crites Barr, her husband Ernest J. Matthews, Sr., who passed in 1974; two brothers Dale and Clarence and great grandson Zackery Jemley.

Friends may call at the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm and again on Thursday from 10am until time of services at 11am. Burial will follow at the Lawnwood Cemetery.
