Helen Louise Helmick Wise, 86 of the Canyon Community passed away on Tuesday, February 9, 2021, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born May 13, 1934, in Cumberland, MD daughter to Obed Helmick and Margie Bonner Jennings.
She was a member of Woodland United Methodist Church. Helen worked for Morgan Shirt Factory, Mylan, and later retired from Mon General Hospital. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, canning and loved her animals. She also loved baking, quilting, and crafting.
Helen is survived by her children Robert and Judy Wise, Diana and August Canale, Richard Wise and Linda Walls, Deloris and Rodney Gardner, Debra and Steve Cottrell, Justin and Autumn Wise, and Jessica Wise and Tyler Fetty; daughter-in-law Sandra Wise; 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Also surviving are two brothers, William Helmick and wife Janice of Morgantown and Milton 'Sonny' Jennings and wife Laura of Charlotte, NC, and her faithful feline, Prince.
In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Douglas Lee Wise; a son Douglas ‘Mike' Wise; sisters, Nance, Kathleen, Jean, Joann, and Elizabeth; brothers, Obed, Keith, and Franklin Helmick, and her canine companions, Duke, Niko, and Jasmine.
Visitation will be held at the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home on Friday, February 12, 2021, from 4 PM until the time of services at 6 PM with Pastor Neil Leftwich officiating.
A private graveside service will be held for the family on Saturday at the Mt. Union Cemetery, Pt. Marion Road, Morgantown.
The family would like to offer their heartfelt thanks to Kim and Kimberly for their compassionate care given to Ms. Helen over the last few years.
All guests will be required to properly wear a face covering, socially distance from other households and limit their visiting time to no more than 15 minutes.
