Harvey Joseph Stabene, Sr.

Harvey Joseph Stabene, Sr., 91 of Star City, passed away Friday November 18, 2011 at the Monongalia General Hospital. Harvey was born February 10, 1920 in Kayford, WV son to the late Domenico and Maria Greco Stabene. Harvey served in the US Navy from 1944 and was honorably discharged in 1946. He served on the USS Riverside and received several ribbons for his service in the Pacific. He retired from Greer as a welder with more than 20 years of service. He was Catholic by faith and attended the St. Mary Catholic Church in Star City. Harvey is survived by his wife of 62 years Mrs. Ruth E. Cooley Stabene; one son Harvey J. Stabene, Jr. and wife Cybie of Barre, VT; grandchildren Melissa Delancey and partner Michele Mason of Pittsburgh, PA and Harvey Stabene, III and fiancé Liz Jones of Colorado Springs, CO; great grandchildren Taylor Delancey and Rourke Delancey both of Pittsburgh, PA. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Harvey was the last surviving member of his family. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four sisters, Theresa Silletta, Rose Marie Sellaro, Antoinette Nellie' Proznick and Angelina Marie Scotchell and two brothers Sam Stabene and Frank Stabene. Friends may call at the St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, Star City on Sunday November 20, from 2-4 and 7-9pm and again on Monday from 9am until Mass of Christian Burial at 10am with Rev. Father John V. Dibacco officiating. Burial will follow at the East Oak Grove Cemetery.
