Harry Andrew Spacht, 74, of Morgantown passed away Friday, December 6, 2013 at the Golden Living Center. He was born March 8, 1939 in Lake Lynn to the late Virginia Ruth (Blaney) and John Orville Spacht. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Betty Jane (Jacobs) Spacht in 1977; a sister, Alice Faye Spacht and a brother, Harold Eugene Spacht. He is survived by his only daughter, Andrea Kay (Spacht) Caldwell, of Morgantown; his faithful and loving companion, Gail Rose, of Terra Alta; one brother, Donald Arthur Spacht and wife, JoEllen, of Morgantown; and two sisters, Mary Ida (Spacht) Dunn and husband, Richard, and Rosella Joyce (Spacht) Coffelt, both of Morgantown; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Harry attended University High School before serving in the United States Army from 1963 through 1965 and the Army Reserves from 1965-1969. He was stationed at Schofield Barracks 25th Infantry Division Company B 2nd Platoon, located in Oahu, Hawaii. He was a carpenter by trade having worked at Lowe's (Sabraton) and Morgantown Machine & Hydraulics, Inc. prior to retiring. Harry never met a stranger and loved being of service to others in need. He loved eating out at a few "favorite" local restaurants where he developed lifelong friendships with many of the waiters and waitresses over the years. He was like a second father and grandfather to many. He also loved being "Daddy" and "Pap" to his furry kidsBuddy and Buttons. The family would like to extend their deepest thanks for the gentle, loving care given to him during his courageous battle with colon cancer to the nurses and medical staff of the oncology wing at Mon General Hospital, Dr. Darrell Saunders and staff at the Zelda Stein Weiss Cancer Center, Drs. William Mitchell, William Burns and Mark Johnson as well as the nurses and aides at the Golden Living Center and Morgantown Hospice. With heartfelt appreciation, the family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Morgantown Hospice, 1063 Maple Avenue, Morgantown, WV 26505. Friends may call at the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home from 3 - 5 and 7 - 9 on Monday and from 12pm until time of services at 1pm on Tuesday with the Rev. David Benner officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Cheat Lake with military honors conducted by Westover VFW Post 9916 and WVANG, Camp Dawson. A time will be provided during the funeral service for friends in attendance to share memories of their time with Harry if they so wish.
