Harley James Winters, Jr.

August 23, 1962 — July 27, 2024

Harley James Winters, Jr., departed on his final ride on Saturday, July 27, 2024, while engaging in the very activity that brought him immense joy: riding his ATV. Harley lived his life to the fullest until the age of 61.

Born on August 23, 1962, in Morgantown, WV, to the late Harley and Betty Lynch Winters, Harley grew up surrounded by a family whose bonds were as tough and resilient as the steel of the engines he loved to tinker with.

Harley's life journey was rich with love and laughter, shared with his beloved spouse of 32 years, Letishia Bracken Winters, and their children, Tristan Bracken, Arlena Winters, Cassie Dunner, Sonya Stiles, Betty Massey, and George Winters. He was a brother to Susie Birrell and Ann Hart, and he held an especially warm place in his heart for his precious grandchildren—Katlyne, Nicole, CJ, Miranda, Harley, Josie, Makenzie, Zoey, Benjamin, and Logan—who lit up his world.

Harley's professional career was marked by dedication and hard work. Starting as a custodian at WVU at the age of 19, he worked diligently up the ranks, retiring as the lead mechanic of the roads and grounds crew after 32 years of commendable service. His legacy talent and skill will be remembered by all who worked alongside him.

A man known for his meticulous care for his shop, Harley's enjoyment of junkyard picking and garage cleaning was second to none. His impressive tool collection was always in impeccable order, a testament to his orderly nature. Nonetheless, it was the challenge of turning wrenches and troubleshooting mechanical mysteries that truly fulfilled him.

Above all, Harley's generous spirit was brightest when he was lending a hand to his family, friends, and neighbors, always the first to offer his mechanical genius to those in need. Yet, his most treasured moments were spent with his grandchildren, who were, without a shadow of a doubt, his pride and joy.

Preceding him in death are his parents and siblings, Camden 'Sam' Frame, Wayne E. Winters, and Sandra Dalton, in eternal peace, Harley leaves behind a legacy characterized by passion, kinship, and an unshakeable zest for life that will continue to inspire all who knew him.

Family and friends will gather at the Fred Jenkins Funeral Home on Thursday, August 1, 2024 from 11 AM until 1 PM. A graveside service will immediately follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens with Pastor Dolly Sparks officiating.
