Glenn Albert Staddon

May 28, 1929 — April 30, 2023

Glenn Albert Staddon, of the Cheat Lake community, passed peacefully following a brief illness on Sunday, April 30, 2023, at the Mon Health Medical Center. Glenn would have celebrated his 94th birthday on May 28. He was born in Morgantown, one of six children to William James & Wanda Opal Fleming Staddon.

Glenn was a graduate of University High School class of ’48 and a Veteran of the U.S. Navy. He served from 1951 until his honorable discharge in 1954. While in the Navy, he worked as a Machinist’s Mate Third Class aboard the U.S.S. Yosemite.

Glenn returned home and worked in the construction trade for a time, which included projects like the Morgantown Lock and Dam before he began a career with C&P Telephone, later Bell Atlantic, where he retired in 1985. Glenn left one job only to start another with the Cheat View Public Service District, where he would serve as Chairman for 38 years.

Glenn was significantly involved in his community and several organizations. He was the President of the Telephone Pioneers, Avery United Methodist Church member, a 50-year Morgantown Union Lodge No. 4 AF & AM member, and a 32nd-degree Scottish Rite Mason, only to name a few.

His hands didn’t remain idle for long. Glenn was a skilled craftsman. He enjoyed working in his woodshop, giving new life to old pieces and engineering many of his own original ideas. Glenn could see the masterpiece waiting to be revealed beneath a tired tattered exterior, including everything from charcuterie boards to grandmother clocks. If you didn’t find him in the shop, you would find him in the garden or on the mower.

Glenn leaves behind his wife of 49 years, Linda Hileman Staddon; one son, James Kevin Staddon (Pam Gelet) of Morgantown; two daughters, Kari Staddon (Matthew Lerner) of Woodstock, MD, & Kathy (Scott) Blass of Mead, CO; grandchildren, James Tyler Staddon, Brent (Rikki) Staddon, Ben & Drew Lerner, G.T. Blass & Sam (Hillary) Blass; great-grandchildren, Ella & Alexa Jo Blass, Jack Staddon & Lucy Staddon.

In addition to his parents, William & Wanda, Glenn was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Jo Hare Staddon; one brother, Robert ‘Bobby’ Staddon; sisters, Nina Dunn, Hilda Weston, Annabelle Stockett & Margaret Beil.

Friends and family will gather at the Avery United Methodist Church on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, from 3 PM until 8 PM. Funeral services will be held at the church on Thursday at 11 AM, with Pastor Todd Hurley officiating. Burial will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens.
