Gladys Rose “Jo” Petsko, 87, of Maidsville, WV, passed peacefully on Saturday November 7, 2020 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Gladys was born on January 19, 1933, daughter to the late Chauncey and Gertrude Meyerhoff Layman.
Gladys worked many years at GC Murphys and subsequently retired from Huntington Bank. Her family was the most important part of her life. She enjoyed making each birthday, holiday, and all major events extraordinarily special. Her favorite hobby was knitting and gifting her special creations to those she loved. Gladys was devout in her faith and a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Parrish in Star City.
Gladys is survived by three brothers; Edward Layman and wife Wilma from Michigan, Chauncey Layman and wife Becky of Morgantown, James Layman and wife Barb of Maidsville. She is also survived by three sisters; Annie Cox of Morgantown, Linda Townsend of Maidsville, Sandy Castelli and husband Charlie of Maidsville who she resided with for the past 16 years of her life, many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews that she loved dearly and treated them as her own children; and sister-in-law, Gerri Layman of Morgantown.
She is preceded in death by her husband Johnny of 36 years; brother Virgil Layman, and two brothers-in-law; Edward Cox and Ernest ‘Sonny’ Townsend.
The family would like to thank the staff of Morgantown Hospice for all their care provided to Gladys, with a special thank-you to Karen Trump, RN for her loving devotion and care.
Friends will be received at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 from 11am until the Mass of Christian Burial at 1pm with Fr. John McDonough as celebrant. Following the services, Gladys will be laid to rest at Zoar Cemetery.
Face coverings will be required along with proper social distancing when attending the visitation and services.
