He devoted his professional career to sales, retiring from Monroe Systems for Business in Butler, Pennsylvania.
George Franklin Shaffer, age 94, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at Evergreen Assisted Living Center in Morgantown, West Virginia. He was born on July 16, 1931, in Kittanning, Pennsylvania, to the late Walter T. and Daisy Mechling Shaffer.
George is survived by his two sons, George B. (Kellie L.) Shaffer of Morgantown and Thomas J. (Melissa) Shaffer of Lakeland, Florida. He also leaves behind his cherished grandsons, Douglas E. Shaffer of Morgantown and Keaton Shaffer of Lakeland, Florida.
A proud veteran of the United States Army, George was a faithful member of Avery United Methodist Church in Morgantown. He devoted his professional career to sales, retiring from Monroe Systems for Business in Butler, Pennsylvania. During his many years as manager, George earned the respect and trust of both clients and colleagues; he was the recipient of the President's Award for the nation's best sales team.
Following his retirement, George and his beloved wife, Beverly, relocated to Florida, where they spent the next 25 years enjoying retirement. Never one to sit still, George continued doing what he knew best—sales. Together they shared a love for golf, and family fondly recalls that they were often the very first golfers on the course each morning, making sure they secured the first tee time of the day.
In 2008, George and Beverly moved to Morgantown to be closer to family and friends. George especially treasured the time he spent with his grandsons. He remained active with the Senior Mons organization and looked forward to his standing Saturday tradition of gathering with friends at Pizza Al's. Following Beverly's passing in 2023, George's life changed significantly. He mourned the loss of his wife deeply and gradually lost interest in many of the activities he had once enjoyed.
In addition to his parents and beloved wife Beverly, George was preceded in death by his infant son, David Bruce Shaffer; his brothers, Robert, Henry, and James Shaffer; and his sister, Margaret Freudenberger.
George will be cremated, and a memorial service celebrating his life is being planned for August at Avery United Methodist Church, with the date and time to be announced. Following the service, George will be laid to rest with his beloved wife, Beverly, at Rupp Cemetery in Kittanning, Pennsylvania.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in George's memory to the Senior Monongalians, Inc., a group that showed him kindness, compassion, and faithfully kept him involved within the local community.
