Garnet Lillian Johnson, 99, formerly of Morgantown West Virginia died of natural causes on February 13, 2013 at Auburndale Oaks Healthcare Center, Auburndale, Florida. She had lived in Florida since 2007 near her son. Born February 27, 1913 in West Hamlin, West Virginia, she is the daughter of the late Reverend Charles W. Scragg and Euna Pearson Scragg. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-one years John S. Johnson, brothers Enos Scragg, Walton Asbury Scragg and sisters, Evelyn Scragg, Frieda Linville, and Naomi Dorsey. Garnet was active in the Morgantown Senior Center, Senior Monongalians, and Kitchenaires Band for many years. She was also a volunteer for the American Red Cross, the American Heart Association, and a volunteer for putting Prayer Back into Schools. While living in Morgantown she was an active member of the Wesley United Methodist Church. She is survived by one son Richard, daughter-in-law Patricia of Haines City, Florida, three grandchildren, Carol of Orlando, Florida, Kimberly of Germantown, Maryland, and Richard, Jr. of Haines City, Florida, two great grandchildren, Tyler and Brittany Adams of North Carolina. In addition, sisters Ruth Lemley, and June Bright of Huntington, West Virginia, brothers Reverend Charles W. Scragg, Jr. of Vero Beach, Florida, Harden Scragg of Charleston, West Virginia, Winfield Scragg of Boring, Oregon, and John Scragg of Trinity, North Carolina. Friends may call at Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home Monday February 18, 2013 from 7-9pm and again on Tuesday from 10am until the time of funeral services at 11am with Rev. Michael Atkinson officiating. Burial will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation 322 Eighth Ave., 7th fl., New York, NY 10001.
