Obituary

Fredrick Leon Jackson peacefully entered into eternal rest on Friday, December 19, 2025, at Mon Health Medical Center in Morgantown, West Virginia. A devoted believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, Fred's faith guided his life and now anchors the hope of those who loved him.

Fredrick Leon Jackson was born on March 31, 1938, in Osage, West Virginia, to the late James Jackson, Sr., and Golden (Greene) Jackson. He was one of eleven children.

In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by six sisters, Josephine (Jackson) Jennings, Sarah Jackson, Agnes (Jackson) Johnson Simmons, Naomi (Jackson) Harris, Charlene (Jackson) Fambro, and Geraldine (Jackson) Gibson; three brothers, William "Stoney" Jackson, Ellis Jackson, and James Jackson, Jr.; and his daughter, Debra Jones Jackson.

Fred attended Monongalia High School in Westover, West Virginia, until integration in 1954, when he transferred to University High School. After two years, he left school and enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he was stationed at several bases in Texas.

While in Texas, Fred met and married Fronia Mae Deal, and together they had three children. That union did not last, and Fred eventually returned to Morgantown, West Virginia, where he reunited with his childhood sweetheart. They were married on May 29, 1966.

Fred was truly a "jack of all trades," but his greatest passion was homebuilding and carpentry. He not only designed and updated his own home, but also built beds for himself and his son.

Throughout his working years, he was employed by and worked alongside several construction companies in the Morgantown area.

Fred was a former member of St. Stephen's Baptist Church in Shriver, West Virginia. After his marriage to Emma Lindsay, a member of Mount Hermon Baptist Church in Jerome Park, Fred joined that congregation. In February 1973, he was ordained as a deacon and also served as a member of the church choir.

Mount Hermon hosted several special occasions throughout the year that included community dinners, and Fred, known as quite the chef, was often asked to prepare the meats, especially his well-loved roast beef.

Fred lived a full and meaningful life and was loved by all who knew him. He never met a stranger, often saying that "strangers are just friends he hadn't met yet."

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Fred Jenkins Funeral Home and will be announced once all details are finalized.
