F. Ferne Austin

F. Ferne Austin, 89, of Independence, passed away Saturday, October 10, 2020, at Pine Ridge Nursing Home.
The daughter of the late Charles A. and Etta J. Costello Austin, she was born December 12, 1930, in Independence.
Ferne was a member of the Halleck United Methodist Church and the South Pointe Church and she retired from West Virginia University. Ferne enjoyed working on word search books and is now reunited with the love of her life, Hubert Zinn
Ferne is survived by her sister, Deloris Howell; a special nephew and niece, Earl and Carol Strang who cared for Flossie and made sure her needs were taken care of; and several loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers: Claude Austin, Charles Harold ‘Pete’ Austin, James Edward ‘Boots’ Austin, Raymond ‘Ralph’ Austin, and Kenneth Austin; and seven sisters: Geneva McCrobie, Virginia Strang, Francis Grimm, Betty Turner, Barbara Jean Sanders, Dorothy Austin, and Mary Pitch.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Pine Ridge Nursing Home and WV Caring Hospice for the care and compassion given to Ferne.

Private graveside services were held on Saturday, October 17, 2020 at the Halleck Cemetery.
