Everett Guy Griffin

June 6, 1923 — August 3, 2015

Everett Guy Griff' Griffin, 92, of Westover, formerly of Granville, passed away on Monday, August, 3, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Everett was born June, 6, 1923 in Dunmore, WV, Pocahontas County son to the late Forrest and Mae Lowe Griffin. Everett was a Veteran of the US Army and entered the service on Feb. 1, 1943 with Company D, 370th Medical Battalion. On June 6, 1944, better known as D-Day, Everett turned 21 years old standing on the shores of Normandy Beach. During his service Everett, received two purple hearts one with an oak leaf cluster and was honorably discharged on October 16, 1945. After returning home he went to work for Mon Power as a lineman and then later the sub-station department and retired as a meter reader with more than 40 years of service. He was a life member of the Westover VFW Post 9916. He was Methodist by faith. Everett is survived by his four daughters, Charlotte Murphy and husband Pat of Butler, PA, Linda Propst and husband Jim of Morgantown, Marlene Henckel and husband Scott of Bruceton Mills and Hope Burns and husband Greg of Morgantown; one sister Shelby Rouskoff and husband John of Salisbury, MD; 10 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; five step great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. In addition to his parents, Everett was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Mattie Ruth Griffin; three brothers, Jack, Jim, and Dick Griffin and two sisters Mable Rexroad and Susie Griffin. Friends will be received at the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm and again on Thursday from 10am until time of services at 11am with Pastor Gina Stewart officiating. Burial will follow at the Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens with military rites conducted by the Westover VFW Post 9916 and WVANG, Camp Dawson.
