Eugene Lee

September 23, 1926 — January 26, 2014

Eugene "Gene" Lee grew up in Kentucky and Tennessee as the oldest of six children during the Great Depression. This fact, and his church-going family, helped make him the responsible and honorable man he was. He served his country in the Army Air Forces during WWII, and formed a lifelong interest in radio there. He held an amateur radio Extra Class license for many years. He briefly attended the University of Tennessee, then wed Joyce Myers, to whom he was married nearly 25 years. He was kind, generous, and the most loving and supportive father anyone could have. He worked as an electrician in the aluminum industry for over 30 years, and was a faithful and active member of the United Steelworkers. His choice of friends had nothing to do with the color of their skin. He was proud of his perfect driving record, never having been charged with a moving violation in 65 years. He was always quick to see and appreciate the Hand of the Master in the wonders of nature. He was multi-talented, with skill as a marksman, poet, electronics designer, singer, linguist, musician, jeweler, painter, wood carver, computer programmer, carpenter, and just about any other role he attempted. He passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2014, at the age of 87, cigarettes having proven to be his Achilles' heel. He is survived by three sisters, one brother, and one sad but very lucky daughter, Jennifer N. Lee. A good life, Dad. Well done. Cremation services were arranged by the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home. Memorial services will be private.
