Eugene “Gene” Hunt, 87, of Schley Street, Westover, entered into eternal rest on Saturday November 7, 2009. He is finally in the arms of his loving wife of 60 years Lillian, and left this world surrounded by his devoted family while at Mon General Hospital. Gene was honored to serve our country as a Corporal for the United States Army during World War II stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart for injuries received in the Philippines during his time of duty. He was worked for many years in several local coal mines and was retired from the West Virginia University’s Basic Science building. He was the youngest surviving sibling of a large family. He was well loved by many and will be missed sitting on the front porch of his home waving to friends and passer-bys. He is survived by three daughters and son-in-laws- Mattie Shinkovich, Jean and Larry Morgan, Becky and John England all of which reside in Westover. He had three sons and daughter-in-laws, Eugene “Allen” Hunt of Morgantown, Rick and Kim Hunt of Morgantown, and Jeff and Michelle Hunt of Westover. He was a grandfather that always had a twinkle in his eye and a grin on his face. There are 23 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 3 Great-great grandchildren that were blessed to have him in their lives. He is preceded in death by his beautiful wife Lillian “Lil” Hunt in 2002, by his son-in-law Archie Shinkovich in 2006, granddaughter Angela Shinkovich in 1959 and a grandson, John England Jr. in 1972 and numerous siblings during his lifetime. Friends will be received at the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home Monday November 9, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9pm and again on Tuesday Nov. 10 from 1pm until time of services at 2pm with Rev. Ron Morgan and Pastor Larry Peters officiating. Entombment will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens with military rites conducted by Westover VFW Post 9916 and WANG Camp Dawson.
