Eric Laurence ‘NoBs’ Stiles, 48, of the Kingwood Pike, Morgantown, passed away Friday night at his home, following a determined battle with cancer. If you knew NoBs, you knew he had the will to live. The often-dismal news given by his healthcare providers, couldn’t steal his strong-willed spirit to fight; and fight he did, for seven long years.
Eric was born April 26, 1968, in Akron, OH son to Ann Hughes of West Palm Beach, FL and the late Robert Stiles. Eric was a graduate of Clay Battelle High School and graduated from Ohio Diesel Technical Institute. He worked at various shops around the Morgantown area, until starting his own business, NoBs Auto.
Eric saw a need to help those who couldn't afford the higher prices offered by service departments at dealerships.Had a great sense of humor, was quick with a joke and rarely seen without a smile. He helped so many folks along the way, often without payment. His friends and family remember his famous ‘nobby time’, which would usually make him late according to everyone else’s time.
His talents could be found in his 'stuff.' His MacGyver type skills would turn someone’s junk into another treasure for his collection. Most would know that you could not win an argument with Eric; he always had the last word. His compassion for others, quick wit, work ethic and skills will be missed by so many.
Eric was an active and dedicated member of the Second Brigade, MC, Chapter H. He was also a family man and loved being surrounded by his grandchildren.
In addition to his mother, Eric is survived by his wife of 26 years, Shiela Kennedy Stiles, two sons, Cody Alan Stiles (Jana Lee) and Sean Alexander Stiles (Krista) all of Morgantown; six grandchildren, Zelda, Xan, Theo, Aleigha, Lillian and Ryuu; siblings, Sean Stiles, Todd Hughes, Greg Hughes and Donna Hughes; step-mother, Susan Stiles of FL and his faithful canine companion, Bella.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Don Hughes.
Cremation will be arranged by the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home.
Family and friends will celebrate the cherished moments and treasured memories of NoBs on Saturday Feb. 25, 2017 at the Halleck Volunteer Fire Department, 1621 Halleck Road, Morgantown, WV 26508, from 10am until the celebration of life at 1pm. Reception will continue until 8pm that evening.
Eric’s family would like to offer sincere thanks to Dr. John J. Azar, of the Zelda Stein Weiss Cancer Center of Mon General and the doctors and staff of UPMC, Pittsburgh, for their continued persistence with Eric’s fight.
