Emelia Mildred Davis

January 31, 1924 — December 27, 2017

Emelia Mildred Cheslock (Granny) Davis, a long time resident of Star City, WV passed away Wednesday, December 27 in her home, surrounded by her family. She was born on January 31, 1924 to Anthony & Nellie Blach Cheslock, immigrants from Poland. As a child, she lived and worked on her family's farms in Star City and Laurel Point. She moved to Detroit and worked as one of WWII's Rosie Riveters building airplane parts. At the age of 22 she married her husband, Merwin R. Davis, Jr. They were married for 63 years until his death in 2008.

In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents, an older sister, Anne Cheslock and an older brother, Waclaw Cheslock.

Mildred is survived by three children and their spouses; Barbara Chico, Peggy & Tom Rowan and Merwin (Merv) & Robin Davis III. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and their spouses, Chris & Shelia Chico, Heather & Ben Cox, Erica Martin, Stacey & John Gillespie, Shawn & Jennifer Rowan, Travis Rowan, Ariel & Greg Lenhart, Melanie & Rob Dinsmore and Merwin (Mervie) Davis IV, as well as 14 great grandchildren and one great grandchild to arrive next year. Mildred is also survived by several siblings and their spouses, Ernie & Ileda Cheslock, Julian & Margaret Cheslock, Rosaline Brand, Connie Powley and Eddie & Miriam Cheslock.

Throughout, her life, Mildred loved to be active in her Star City home where she enjoyed cooking, baking and cleaning. For many years she was an active member in the Star City Fire Department Auxiliary where she spent many hours cooking dinners and baking for bake sales and weddings with the other members. In the spring and summer Mildred was often found working in her flower beds which gave her tremendous happiness. At the age of 60, Mildred learned to swim in her backyard pool. She enjoyed countless summer days swimming with her children and grandchildren. Mildred was always willing to help a family member with DIY home projects, especially if it was painting and she always took great pride in any job done well. Mildred will be missed deeply by all those she leaves behind.

Family will receive friends on Friday, Dec. 29, 2017 at the St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church from 4pm until Vigil Service at 7:30pm. Visitation will continue Saturday from 9am until Mass of Christian Burial at 10am Saturday with Rev. Msgr. Anthony Cincinnati, STD, VE as celebrant. She will be laid to rest beside of her husband at the Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens.
