Eldon Junior Moore, 93, of Granville, formerly of Maidsville, passed away on February 3, 2021, at his residence.
Eldon was born in Morgantown on September 16, 1927, to Ulmont and Irene Thomason Moore. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and retired from Monongalia County where he was the dog warden for seventeen years.
When his health still permitted, Eldon enjoyed traveling with his wife Betty, especially to Myrtle Beach every September, bowling, dancing, going on cruises, and attending social events at the senior center. He liked to watch Mountaineer football and basketball, always had a jigsaw puzzle in progress, could be found tinkering around in his backyard shed for hours and he loved to decorate for Christmas.
Eldon is survived by his second wife of 21 years, Betty (Miller) Lewis, of Granville, his step-son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Patty Lewis, of Granville, and by Betty’s grandchildren, JD Lewis and his fiancé Robin Walls of Morgantown, Craig Lewis of Alexandria, VA, great-granddaughter Cara Lewis and great-grandchildren Christian and Maddie Walls. Eldon is also survived by his brother Leo of Pahrump, NV, his sister, Shirley (Tom) Chipps of Mentor-on-the-Lake, Ohio, sister-in-law Carol (Burkhammer) Diemer of Orwell, Ohio, his brothers-in-law Kenny (Peggy) Miller of Westover, and Bobby (Renee) Miller of Crescent City, FL and by several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Eldon was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Jean Burkhammer Moore in 1994, three brothers, John, Paul, and Frederick, and one sister, Ida (Moore) Miller. Also preceding him in death was his sister-in-law Pauline (Donald) Morris and brother-in-law Dusty (Marie) Miller.
The family is grateful to Amedisys Hospice Care, especially Cindy, Kayla, and Heather, for their excellent and compassionate care of Eldon during the last several months. Their support enabled Eldon to remain at home where he was most comfortable.
Due to COVID, private funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home. Burial will follow in East Oak Grove Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to Saint Ursula’s Food Pantry and Outreach, PO Box 18, Pursglove, WV 26546, or to any animal rescue organization.
