Elbert Vaughn Jackson, Sr.

Elbert ‘Vaughn’ Jackson, Sr. 67, of Maidsville, went home to be with the Lord on Monday April 17, 2017 surrounded by his loving family.

He was born February 10, 1950 in Morgantown, the son of the late James R. Jackson and Flora Mae Jackson.

Vaughn retired from Blacksville #2 mine, after 35 and a half years. He was a member of UMWA Local 1702. Vaughn loved working on his cars, spending endless hours making sure everything was show room perfect. He loved fishing and hunting. Vaughn also enjoyed country music and especially enjoyed watching the old westerns. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Vaughn is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 50 years, Fern Sue (Rowan) Jackson, whom he married November 27, 1966; his son, James R. ‘Jimmy’ Jackson II and his wife, Amber and their children, Tyler Sponogle, Kaylee Sue Jackson, Elbert Vaughn Jackson II, Brooke Lee Jackson, and James R. Jackson III; his son, Michael ‘Vaughn’ Jackson and his wife, Dianna, and their children, Laci Lynn Jackson and Wyatt Joseph Scott Jackson. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Elvin ‘Leon’ and James ‘Butch’; and three sisters, Gay McCord, Laurie Jackson and Juanita Jackson; and his in laws Godfrey and Julia Rowan.

Family and friends will be received at Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home on Thursday April 20, 2017 from 11am until the time of funeral services at 1pm with Vaughn’s brothers-in-law Rev. Willard Rowan and Rev. Edward Rowan officiating. Honoring Vaughn’s wishes cremation will follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made in Vaughn’s memory to Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home 10 S. High St. Morgantown, WV 26501.

The family would like to thank all of the nurses and staff with Amedysis Hospice, for all of the great care during Vaughn’s illness.
