Edward Lee Sowell

September 16, 1941 — April 28, 2014

Edward Lee Eddie' Sowell, 72, of Morgantown, went home to be with the Lord on Monday April 28, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born September 16, 1941 in Pursglove, WV and was the son of the late Eugene Vaughn and Alice Sowell Jackson. He was raised by the late Robert and Ella Sowell, grandparents. He attended University High School where he saved a school bus filled with high school students. The school bus driver experienced heart failure while traveling from University High School on Monongahela Boulevard. He was employed by WVU Athletic Department. He was a member of Mt. Herman Baptist Church where he sang in the choir. Eddie is survived by his wife of nearly 20 years, Elaine Louise Sowell of Morgantown and special sister, Bernice Blue of Summerfield, NC; children, Carmen Cooke of Lorain, OH, Melva (Eddie) Perry of Columbus, OH, Darla (Lionel) Sowell of Cleveland, OH, Edward Anthony Sowell of Lorain, OH, Charles (Jodie) Sowell of Lorain, OH, Tamerya (Kenneth) Bohannan of Huntsville, AL and Shandell Sowell of Killeen, TX; step-children, Theresa (Jon) Johnson of Morgantown and Jim (Mandy) Johnson of Morgantown; 20 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to his parents and maternal grandparents he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Vaughn; Aunts Sally Morgan and Willa Beauford; Uncle Robert (Mattie) Sowell and a grandson Lewis Andrew Turner, III. Friends may call at the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home on Friday May 2, 2014 from 3 to 5pm and 7 to 9pm and again on Saturday May 3, from noon until time of service at 1pm. Burial will follow at the East Oak Grove Cemetery. The family would like to offer their sincerest thanks to Dr. Delagarza, the staff of Amedisys Hospice and the Clark K. Sleeth Family Medicine for their compassionate care over the last several weeks.
