Edward Gene “Pete” Shade, 70, passed away at his home on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.

Born on January 27, 1956, Pete and his twin sister, Eva Lee, were the children of Darnell and Irene Miller Shade. A 1975 graduate of University High School, Pete excelled both academically and athletically, earning All-American honors in basketball. He continued his basketball career at Alderson Broaddus College, where he further showcased his talent and dedication to the sport.

Pete dedicated 27 years of service to Mylan Pharmaceuticals before retiring. Beyond his professional life, he was deeply committed to his community, generously giving his time as a youth basketball and football coach. He found great joy in mentoring young athletes and sharing his love of sports.

In his spare time, Pete enjoyed fishing, cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers, and spending time catching up with friends. Above all else, he treasured his role as a grandfather and took immense pride in spoiling and spending time with his beloved grandchildren.

He is survived by his three sons, Chad Shade (wife, Kristen), Zachary Wilson, and Isaiah Shade (fiancée, Amanda Faulknier); and his daughters, Jeanie Brown, Angie Fominko, and Aimee Fominko. He is a husband and a father and also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Valory, Kayden, Madechia, Marianna, and Ava Shade. He is survived by his brother, Daniel Shade-Nichols; his sisters, Deborah Young, Sharon Tippton, and Jean Massenburg; his fiercely loyal friend, Kenny Jackson; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

Pete was preceded in death by a beloved wife, Ruth Ann Shade; mother, Irene Miller; father, Darnell Shade; brothers, Arthur James Shade, Tronia Shade, Terry Lake, and Willey 'Junie' Riley; and his sisters, Eva Lee Shade and Minnie Riley.

Family and friends are invited to gather at Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home, 10 S. High Street, Morgantown, WV 26501, on Thursday, March 5, 2026, from 3 pm–7 pm, and again on Friday from 10 am until the time of the funeral service at 11 am. Following the funeral service, Pete will be laid to rest at Halleck Cemetery.
