Edgar Statler

Edgar W. Statler, 89 of Morgantown passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at his residence. He was born August 28, 1921 at Core, WV , the son of the late Plummer and Hazel Roupe Statler. Edgar retired in 1980 from Consol's Osage # 3 Mine, a member of UMWA Local 4043, a World War II veteran -1st Division/ 18th Infantry. He landed on the beach head of France during the D-Day Invasion. He received the Purple Heart, Silver Star ,Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, Carbine Medal, Expert Carbine Medal, ETO Ribbon, France Gold Juno Sword Award, 5 Major Battle Stars and 1 Arrowhead Medal. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 9916 and also a lifetime member of the Purple Heart Association of Fairmont. He also enjoyed bowling in his earlier years at Sycamore Lanes. Edgar is survived by his wife of 68 years Ruby K. Ammons Statler, Son and daughter in law Harold Eugene Statler and Donna of Morgantown, Daughter Kathy White of Morgantown, Son in law Earl L. Hixenbaugh of Core, Daughter in law Billie J. Staler of Carmichaels, former daughter in law Ida M. Osecky of Morgantown, Brother and sister in law Ray and Helen Statler of Morgantown, sister Jane Trader of Daybrook, sister in law Doris Ammons Yeater of Wesley Chapel, FL., brother and sister in law James Delbert and Sue Statler of Daybrook, Grandchildren; Bonita Statler Hollabaugh and husband Bob of Cocoa, Fl., Ryan Statler and wife Cheryl of Morgantown, Tammie Boylen Gildon and husband Dennis of Victoria, TX., Ronnie Statler and companion Melissa of Lone Pine,Pa., Brett Statler and wife Tina of Waynesburg,Pa., Sonya Statler Forrest and husband Les of Richmond, Va., Curt Boylen of Fairview, Glenn Statler and wife Lori(Chick) of Mt. Morris, Pa., Angie Hixenbaugh of Core, Kevin Boylen and wife Christy of Fairview, Kelli Boylen Stewart and husband Jeff of Fairview and Ashley White of Moundsville. Also surviving are 2 sisters in law Martha Ammons Statler and Lucille Trader Statler and 20 great grandchildren,4 great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Edgar was preceded in death by 2 sons Bill Statler and Larry Statler, 2 daughters Doris Statler Hixenbaugh and Rose Statler Boylen, siblings Gerald Statler, Stanley Statler, Delmont Statler, Donald Statler, Aldene Statler Loring and twins who died in infancy, sister Ina Cooper Statler, brother in law Robert Ammons, brother and sister in law Wilbert and Bertha Bennett Ammons , in-laws Perry and Corda Ammons. Friends may call at the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home on Friday, March 18, 2011 from 4-8pm and again Saturday from 10am until the time of services at 11am. Burial will follow in the St. Luke's Cemetery with military honors by VFW Post 9916 and WVANG Camp Dawson.
