Edgar Scott Henkins, 81, of Pentress, WV, passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2026. He was born on July 21, 1944, in Pentress a son of the late Edgar Core and Mabel Margaret Henkins.
Scott was a graduate of Clay Battelle High School and attended West Virginia University. He served his country honorably as a member of the United States Army, serving the Vietnam War from 1966 - 1968. He was employed at GE Specialty Chemicals as Senior Chemical Specialist and retired after 32 years of dedicated service. He enjoyed his work and would often reminisce about the shenanigans he and his coworkers would get into during his time there. Also, at GE he worked with research and development and created a patent for plastic safety by being able to get plastics into a powder form.
In his free time, he enjoyed golfing with his family, and breaking the "Five Minute Rule" by searching for golf balls along the fairways like it was an Easter Egg Hunt. However, his favorite passion was farming at the family farm, Henkins Hilltop Farm, and caring for his pet cattle, and lounging with his favorite dog Cody. While at the farm, he was always looking for ways to improve agriculture technology.
Most of all, Scott loved spending time with his family, and supporting his wife, children, and their families. His main objective was for his children to be successful and instill the importance of education in them.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years Joyce Marlene Henkins; children Julie Denise Phillips, Eric Scott Henkins, and Kelly Lynn Henkins; three grandchildren Tristan Scott Phillips, Kendall Henkins, and Grace Henkins; his siblings Robert Kurtis Henkins and wife Shelley Dean Henkins, and Susan King and husband William; sister-in-law Sharon Miller; brother-in-law Gilbert Bryan and wife Judy; five nephews and two nieces Scott King, Chad Henkins, Adam Henkins, Leann Woods, Patrick Bryan, Troy French, and Renee Estler.
Family and friends are invited to gather at Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home 10 S. High Street Morgantown, WV 26501 on Friday, April 24, 2026, from 4pm - 7pm, and again on Saturday from 11am until the time of the funeral service at 12pm with Pastor Dan Meadows officiating. Following the funeral, Scott will be laid to rest at Olive Cemetery with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be made, in Scott's memory, to Alzheimer's Association West Virginia Chapter P.O. Box 18485 South Charleston, WV 25303
