Dr. Michael Ronald Morissette, 38, passed away January 22, 2011. A loving husband to Janelle Stricker and dedicated father to his daughter Maari (3) and son Trent (2). In addition to his wife and children he is survived by his loving parents Ronald and Mary-Lou; brother Christopher and his fiance, Victoria; brother Brien and his wife Cynthia; father-in-law Vance Garza; brother-in-law Jason; brother-in-law Jeff and his wife April. Born in Rhode Island where he received his undergraduate degree in Pharmacy (U.R.I. -Salutatorian of Pharmacy) he continued his education at the University of California, San Diego, where he received his Ph.D in Biomedical Sciences. He continued his research and was an instructor in medicine at Harvard Medical School and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Recently, Michael had been a proud part of the faculty of West Virginia University, continuing his research in his field of molecular cardiology in the Department of Exercise Physiology. Michael held memberships in The American Heart Association, Basic Cardiovascular Sciences, The American Aging Association and the American Physiological Society. Michael had been an All State tennis player in High School and continued playing through College. He enjoyed skiing, snowboarding, golfing and all outdoor activities with his family and friends. Friends may call at the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home (10 S High St. Morgantown WV 26501) on Friday, January 28 from 4 to 8 p.m. A memorial service will be hosted by West Virginia University on Saturday, January 29 at the Fukushima Auditorium (room 1901) in the Health Sciences Center at 11:30 a.m. Parking will be made available at the Family Medicine Clinic parking lot near the Learning Center. A memorial Mass will be scheduled in Rhode Island at the convenience of the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, it is being asked that donations be made for his children to Wells Fargo, P.O. Box 3488 Portland OR. 97208-3488 care of Morissette/Stricker Family Fund. He will be deeply missed by all that knew him for his humor, love and devotion.
