Dr. Marcus A. Naylor, 94, of Morgantown died peacefully on Friday July 4, 2014 at Monongalia General Hospital. Dr. Naylor was born in Oberlin, OH in 1920. He attended Wooster College and John Hopkins University where he earned a PhD in both chemistry and physics. While at John Hopkins University, during the war years, Dr. Naylor was one of the scientists contributing to the highly secretive Manhattan Project. Later as a research chemist for the DuPont Company, he participated in the development of Teflon and numerous industrial chemicals. Dr. Naylor was an accomplished musician playing in both orchestra and dance bands. He was also an avid golfer, and yachtsman, sailing with his wife in the Chesapeake, the Mediterranean, and Caribbean. Dr. Naylor was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years Julia Brockman Naylor. He is survived by two daughters Cynthia Larsen and husband Jim of Garland, TX and Nancy Naylor-Twardus and husband Daniel of Morgantown; four grandchildren Jesse and Ian Twardus, Jodi Pendarvis, and Jamie Berry; and five great grandchildren. In honoring Dr. Naylor's wishes, cremation is being arranged by Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home. In lieu flowers, donations may be made to any local animal rescue shelter.
