Dr. Thomas R. Long, 81 of Morgantown passed away unexpectedly as a result of a heart attack on Monday December 3, 2012 at Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born January 26, 1931 in Charleston, WV son of the late Wayne Willard and Ruth Stephens Long. Dr. Long was a professor in the WVU College of Engineering for 48 years, and retired from there as Associate Dean. After his retirement, Dr. Long remained very active and worked every day at Mid-Atlantic Sports Cars, Inc. He was also a Veteran of the United States Air Force. He is survived by his wife, Patricia S. Long; children, Thomas R. Long, Jr. and wife Joy of Wake Forrest, NC, Janet Long Armistead, Wayne W. Long and wife Kim and Sarah Ann Steel and husband Paul, all of Morgantown; six grandchildren, Matthew Armistead and wife Sera Mathew, Mary and Will Long, Ruth and Alex Steel and Cassandra Righter. Also surviving is his only sister Susie Whiteman of Bridgeport, WV. Honoring Dr. Long's wishes cremation was arranged by the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home. Friends may call at the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home on Friday December 7, 2012 from 5pm until time of memorial service at 6:30pm. Interment of his ashes will take place at the convenience of the family.
