In loving memory from his wife Birdie and his children Doug and Sharon, and daughter-in-law Stephanie,
Douglas M. VanDevander Sr. of Morgantown passed away at Ruby Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at the age of 76 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
Doug is preceded in death by his parents, French and Vella VanDevander, and his brother Albert Jennings VanDevander. Doug is survived by his loving wife Birdie of 54 years, his son Douglas and his wife Stephanie and their children Austin, Tyler, and Hannah, his daughter Sharon and her children Ryan and Joshua Elliff, and his sister Debbie and her husband Dan Savage and their daughter Amanda and her husband Jason Posey. Also survived by other nieces and nephews.
Doug was born on February 21, 1943 in Davis, WV and moved to Morgantown, WV in 1951. He attended Easton Elementary School and he graduated from University High School in 1961. He joined the U.S. Navy in June 1961 and served for four years. He then worked for West Virginia University Agriculture Farm and retired from the University after being there for 33 years. After retirement he continued work as an all-around handyman for family and friends. Doug and Birdie were married in Morgantown on June 26, 1965. His favorite hobbies were hunting, fishing and trains. Doug is loved by friends and family and he would always go out of his way to help anyone. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and he will be dearly missed.
Friends may call at the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home, 10 S High St, Morgantown, WV 26501 on Saturday, October 12, 2019 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Honoring Doug’s wishes, cremation will follow.
