Dorothy Margaret Moore

November 24, 1927 — November 18, 2023

Surrounded by her family, Dorothy Margaret Moore, age 95, peacefully entered the Kingdom of Heaven on November 18, 2023. She was born in Claysville, PA on November 24, 1927, to Lila and Dent Simpson.

She married Roy E. Moore on July 13, 1946. They spent 30 years together raising their 5 children before his passing in 1976. Later in life, Dorothy moved to Westover, WV where she spent the rest of her remaining years. Following the death of her husband, Dorothy attended nursing school and graduated at the top of her class as an LPN. Her nursing career included years of service for the Monongalia County Health Department visiting homemakers, as well as a private duty caregiver. She retired at the age of 60 but continued to serve her community for 20 more years as a volunteer for Morgantown Hospice.

Dorothy was a member of Buckeye United Methodist Church. She was an inspiration through her faith and devotion. She enjoyed being involved in community activities and was instrumental with the Mason-Dixon Historical Park in both WV and PA. She was actively involved in the Ramp Festival and the Frontier and Pioneer Festivals. She attended classes through the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute and participated in various Bible study groups. Some of Dorothy’s greatest joys were spending time with her family. Whether it was a beach trip to North Carolina, taking her grandchildren to Deep Creek Lake over a course of 32 years or camping in the woods, her laughter and sense of humor nourished us as much as her home-cooked meals and unconditional love.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Roy E. Moore and son, Arthur P. Moore. She was the last remaining sibling of Spencer Simpson, Elva Simpson, Louise Koscho, Virginia Simpson, Shirl Feldman and Romaine Webb. Surviving are her children: Richard (Peggy) Moore, Allen (Jody) Moore, daughter- in-law Toni Moore, Lora (Ben) Henderson, and Linda (Brett) Mankey. Grandchildren: Susan (John) Doak, Sarah Moore, Janie (Mike) Phillips, Sharon Moore Phillips, Jeremy Henderson, Jordan Henderson, and Justin (Brooke) Layton. Great Grandchildren: Riley Laukaitis, Carter and Brody Doak, Michael, Shalyne and Cody Phillips, Ceara Phillips, Terie Dalton, Freya Wilson, and Bella Layton. Also surviving is her little dog, Fonzi.

Whether you knew her as Dorothy, Dot, Mom, Grandma, or Granny Goose, in all of these, she was a disciple of Jesus. Her mission in life was leading others to Christ’s gift of Salvation. We would like to extend our gratitude to Morgantown Hospice (Amedysis) for their compassion during this difficult time.
