Donald Reese Ayersman, 78, of Morgantown passed away at his home on Monday, May 1, 2023. Family and friends from across the world mourn his passing and celebrate his amazing life.
Donald was born in Morgantown on April 3, 1945, the son of the late Donald R and Ethel (Stump) Ayersman. Everyone who interacted with "Don" was changed for the better. He is survived by his loving wife Leyla; son Justin (Lauren); daughter Samantha; step daughter Rachel Shisler (Josh); stepson Timmy Ripley;grandchildren Lexie, Ryder, Payce, Jackson, Grayson, Clayton, Sakota, & Xander; sisters; Deborah Felton (Bruce) & Kim Calandrelli (Brad); and several nieces and nephews.
Donald was preceded in death by his loving wife Shirley; brothers Ronald & Ricky; and sisters Dolly (McRobie) & Rose (Murray).
Donald was a 32 veteran of the United States Air Force and the West Virginia Army National Guard, serving in England during the Vietnam War and later in Operation Desert Storm, where he was awarded the Bronze Star. Following his retirement from Mon Power, he served his community as a Red Cross volunteer during several disasters across various states. Don also served as a Gideon for many years, speaking at churches and distributing bibles. Don also served in numerous organizations; the Morgantown Union Lodge #4 where he was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, Osiris Temple Shriner, the previous Union President for Mon Power, former President of the Senior Monongalian's, member of the Board of Directors of the Stonewall Jackson Coin Club, past member of the Morgantown Jaycees, and volunteer with Animal Friends.
Donald was a patriot to the core and proud to be an American. A dedicated husband and father, he treasured his children and grandchildren and embraced every moment with them. In lieu of flowers, donations, in Don's memory, can be made to Fairview United Methodist Church, St. Judes, or Shriners Hospitals.
Friends and family are invited to gather at Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home on Friday May 5th from 2-4PM and 6-8PM and again on Saturday May 6th from 10AM until the time of service at 11AM with Pastor Audria Thomason officiating. Immediately following the service, Donald will be laid to rest at Zoar Cemetery.
